TGX is a bold new learning initiative at Toowoomba Grammar School, designed to prepare boys for a rapidly changing world.

Built around innovation, curiosity and creativity, TGX connects real-world learning, industry partnerships and purpose-built facilities to develop the skills that matter most — critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, adaptability and resilience.

Designed for students from Years 5 to 12, TGX will progressively shape how boys learn, think and apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.

What is TGX?

TGX is an innovative future-focused learning program being developed at Toowoomba Grammar School in consultation with external partners. It is designed to connect classroom learning with real-world application, helping boys build the skills, mindset and adaptability they need in a rapidly changing world.

Through hands-on projects, industry engagement and innovative learning experiences, TGX empowers students to apply their knowledge confidently across a wide range of future pathways.

The program is delivered through three important lenses: Agriculture, Industry, and Environment. These lenses reflect our region’s identity and future opportunities, providing authentic contexts for learning while embracing a multi-disciplinary approach across the curriculum.

Importantly, TGX is designed to benefit all students, no matter their future career path. The skills students build will be industry-agnostic - valuable for any profession.

The pilot program will commence in 2026 for a select group of Year 10 and 11 students, with a long-term vision to embed TGX across Years 5 to12.

Why TGX?

The world of work is changing — fast.

No career will be untouched by digitisation or emerging technologies, including robotics, construction, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and environmental innovation. In this environment, academic knowledge alone is no longer enough.

TGX is our proactive response to this change.

We want our boys to graduate with the confidence, capability and mindset to navigate complexity, adapt to emerging industries and contribute meaningfully to any field. TGX allows students to simulate real challenges, critically apply their learning and develop the transferable skills required for success well beyond school.

How TGX Works

TGX strengthens our existing curriculum through:

  • Real-world problems and learning experiences
  • Strong industry collaboration
  • Purpose-built learning environments, including the Design, Engineering and Technology (DET) Centre and Agricultural and Industry Centre (AIC)
  • Cross-disciplinary projects grounded in authentic challenges
  • Micro-credentials

Rather than replacing traditional learning, TGX enhances and extends it, allowing boys to connect knowledge with application, theory with practice and learning with purpose.

Why is TGS creating this program?

The world is changing rapidly, and TGX is our proactive response.

We want our boys to graduate with more than academic knowledge. TGX allows students to simulate real challenges, apply their learning in meaningful contexts, and build confidence as adaptable, capable contributors across any future pathway.

Is TGX a new subject?

TGX is not a timetabled subject. It is a flexible, cross‑disciplinary program delivered outside regular class time through projects, industry engagement and deep problem solving. It also represents our broader commitment to updating the Years 5 to 12 curriculum through the lenses of agriculture, industry and environment, with a Year 10 capstone as the program’s peak experience.

Who is TGX for?

All students from Years 5 to 12 will have access to the benefits of TGX through the contemporised curriculum relating to Agriculture, Industry and Environment.

The TGX co-curricular pilot will begin in 2026 with a group of selected students who take part in an extended problem‑solving program supported by mentors and teachers. Throughout the experience, students develop innovation skills and earn stackable micro‑credentials.

From 2027, students who show strong interest and aptitude may also be invited to continue their TGX journey in the senior years through personalised mentoring and open‑ended project work.

What types of experiences will TGX include?

TGX will provide opportunities for students to:

  • Access real-world problems through industry subject-matter experts
  • Explore these problems using emerging technologies
  • Collaborate with peers, staff and industry mentors to research, map, prototype, test, validate, iterate and more, all within our world-class facilities.
  • Engage directly with industry partners
  • Accrue micro-credentials

The goal is to allow boys to apply classroom learning in meaningful, future-focused ways.

The future of learning at TGS
