New Scrum Machine Strengthens TGS Rugby Pathways

This $20,000 investment will play a pivotal role in enhancing scrummaging safety, technique and development for players from Under 11s through to the First XV.

Head of Rugby, Mr Lincoln Clapham, said the new machine marks a significant step forward for the School's rugby program.

"It allows us to introduce scrummaging in a safe and structured way, beginning with our youngest age groups and building right through to our senior players," he explained.

"For our First XV, it provides the opportunity to train under match-like pressure, something that's essential for developing confident and capable front rowers."

The Live Scrum Machine, used by leading rugby programmes around the world, replicates the resistance and feel of a real scrum while significantly reducing the risk of injury.

Mr Clapham explained it will also support the delivery of the School's Front Row Club, a specialist pathway programme designed to foster technical proficiency, safety and strong peer connections among front row players.

"Scrummaging is such a crucial part of the game, yet it's often overlooked in development."

"Our Front Row Club, paired with this new machine, means we can now offer high-quality, age-appropriate training and promote a love for playing in the front row across all age groups," he said.
