TGS Takes U15 Futsal Title

Toowoomba Grammar School’s U15 Futsal team has been crowned the Southern Queensland Champions after an outstanding performance at the Queensland School Futsal Titles in Brisbane on Thursday, 26 August 2021.

TGS played Kawana Walters State College, St Andrews Lutheran College and Mansfield SHS in the pool draw. The boys started a little slow in the first game but gradually built momentum to finish on equal six points and reach the quarter finals.

We took on Mt Gravatt and quickly built a strong lead and won the game comfortably.

TGS then played Murrumba State Secondary College in the semi-final and once again came out firing which resulted in a big lead early in the game and enabled us to rest players for the final.

The grand final was against one of the most highly-rate futsal schools in Australia, King’s Christian College. It was a very even and intense game. TGS played exceptionally well and had a 3-1 lead at halftime. King’s Christian College tried everything to get back into the game, but we held on to win 6-3.

The boys now progress to the Champion of Champions tournament on the Gold Coast later this year.

Year 10 player, Sewmith Samarawickrama was named MVP for TGS.
