Readers’ Cup and Tim-Tams

Toowoomba Grammar Junior School has a strong focus on reading and we encourage and support all our boys to enjoy reading. The Junior School Library statistics tell the story; in just one week our Prep class of twenty boys borrowed 68 books between them, students in Years 1-3 borrowed 267 books and 94 books went home with boys in Years 4-6. On the final day of each Term, a highly-anticipated assembly is held… the Tim-Tam Assembly! A packet of Tim-Tams is given to one boy from each class to encourage him to read during the school holidays. There is a set criteria given to class teachers by Head of Junior School, Mr Scott Campbell, on how to select the winning student. The ‘Tim-Tam’ boys are also given two rules: They can’t share their biscuits at all (even with family), and each time they eat one they should be settled in with a good book.
