Four Toowoomba Grammar School students are participating in the gruelling Kokoda Pinnacle Challenge – Race for the Cure - to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

The Challenge involves three stages, testing endurance and physical and mental resilience:

  • A 30-kilometre trek on the Sunshine Coast that was held on Saturday, 22 April
  • A 48-kilometre run in Brisbane on Saturday, 3 June that had to be completed within 12 hours
  • A 96-kilometre race, with 6km elevation to be held on the Gold Coast on 15 July.

Matty Wise, Dougal McInnerney, Edward Layton and Harry McMillan have completed the first two stages of the event and are now preparing for the toughest ‘challenge’ – the 96km race on the Gold Coast this weekend. It is not a relay, each boy has to run the entire distance.

These boys decided to take up the Challenge as part of their commitment to supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation, an organisation that is dedicated to funding research and raising awareness about breast cancer, after Matty witnessed the impact of breast cancer on a family friend.

The boys have raised over $8,300 to date and are hoping to raise even more money for this worthwhile cause.
