Historic 1st XI Cricket Match

Toowoomba Grammar School is celebrating an impressive milestone against Brisbane Grammar School on Saturday, 12 March with our 1st XI cricket team playing their 750th match!

This is a huge achievement for any sporting organisation, particularly considering this is counted on GPS games – so there are roughly only seven games each year; it’s taken a long time to reach this weekend’s historic occasion. It will presumably be another 37-40 years before they play the 1000th match!

Our 1st XI matches were originally on the Barbour Oval, before Mills Oval became the 1st XI’s ‘home ground’ amidst much controversy. Even more controversial was when the first ever cricket match (not the 1st XI however) was held on Old Boys’ Memorial Oval in January 2010, with this Oval previously reserved for Rugby only.

Our most distinguished cricketer is the legendary Australian representative, Martin Love.

TGS has claimed fourteen 1st XI GPS Premiership titles since the GPS competition commenced in 1918 with our Premiership winning teams in 1918, 1922, 1923, 1925, 1928, 1932, 1933, 1936, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2005
