The Toowoomba Grammar School GPS Swimming Team proudly represents the School in the prestigious Great Public Schools (GPS) Association competition.
This is a dedicated student-only swim team, open to boys from Years 5 to 12 who demonstrate a commitment to training, teamwork and School spirit.
Season Overview
The GPS Swimming season begins in Term 1, with training commencing in Term 4 and continuing into Term 1. Students compete in Friday night pre-meets against other GPS schools to prepare for the highlight of the season – the GPS Swimming Championships held at the Sleeman Aquatic Centre in Brisbane during Week 6 of Term 1.
Selection and Pathways
Selections for the GPS squad are based on performance, attitude and commitment. The Junior and Senior House Swimming Carnivals play an important role in identifying student ability and potential for GPS representation. All students who show enthusiasm and a willingness to improve are encouraged to be involved.
Training Program
Our GPS swimmers benefit from a flexible and supportive training environment designed to accommodate the busy lives of TGS students.
- Training is provided free of charge to GPS squad members.
- Early morning sessions include breakfast, ensuring students are fuelled for the day.
- Afternoon sprint sessions are available for students with other co-curricular commitments—jump in, get 30 minutes of quality work done, and head off to your next activity.
- Training focuses on fitness, technique, discipline and team culture.
- GPS swimmers are also welcome to join TGS Swim Club training sessions and regular club meets at no cost, providing further opportunities to develop skills and race experience.
