Welcome to the Host City and School

Toowoomba, Queensland

Nestled on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, Toowoomba is known as the Garden City of Queensland. Just 90 minutes from Brisbane, it blends the warmth of a regional hub with the facilities of a modern city. With more than 150 parks and gardens — including the world-famous Carnival of Flowers — Toowoomba offers a beautiful setting for international visitors.

As the gateway to the Darling Downs, Toowoomba has a proud heritage in education, agriculture and sport. The city is easily accessible via Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and Brisbane International Airport, making it an ideal location for welcoming teams from across Australia and the world.

Toowoomba Grammar School

Founded in 1875, Toowoomba Grammar School is one of Queensland’s oldest and most respected independent boys’ schools. For over 150 years, TGS has been dedicated to educating young men of character, purpose and service.

The School has a long and proud rugby tradition, competing in Queensland’s GPS competition and producing many players who have gone on to represent Queensland, Australia and international teams. Rugby is woven into the School’s identity, with matches played on the iconic Old Boys’ Memorial Oval, which will serve as a centrepiece venue for the Rugby Heritage Cup 2027.

TGS is also one of Australia’s largest boarding schools, with over 300 boarders from across regional and rural communities. This strong boarding culture creates a welcoming, family atmosphere — one that will extend to every team, visitor and supporter arriving for the Rugby Heritage Cup.

History of the Event

The inaugural tournament was hosted at Pontlevoy Abbey, founded in 1034, one of France’s oldest educational institutions. Located in the Loire Valley, between the Château de Chambord and Château d’Amboise, Pontlevoy welcomed:

  • 800 students aged 12 to 18 years
  • 40 teams (250 boys and 250 girls)
  • Schools from multiple nations celebrating rugby, culture and global friendship

The 2027 Cup continues this legacy—upholding the values, format and spirit established in Pontlevoy.

TGS Facilities

Toowoomba Grammar School offers a truly self‑contained, high‑performance environment ideal for international sporting events — featuring elite playing fields, a state‑of‑the‑art Sports Centre, tennis courts, aquatic complex and on‑site boarding accommodation that enables teams to live, train and recover seamlessly in one location.

Our facilities are so highly regarded that the Brisbane Broncos chose TGS as their base for their 2026 pre‑season training camp, and we have proudly supported major Rugby 7s activity in the region — including hosting the Queensland Reds, who visited TGS for their Captain’s Run as part of the 2025 Downs Rugby International Women’s 7s Series schedule.
