TGS Hosts Volleyball Queensland Schools Cup31st May 2021
Thousands of dollars was injected into the Toowoomba economy over the three days (28-30 May) as Toowoomba Grammar School hosted the 2021 Volleyball Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup.
200 teams (approx. 2,000 players) of the state’s best volleyballers converged on Toowoomba for the three-day competition.
This is the highest level of school competition for volleyball. It’s a round robin competition that is split into three divisions. The converted Honours division requires qualification to enter from previous Schools Cup performances. Toowoomba Grammar School has participated in the Cup since 2004 and our teams have been strong enough to qualify for the Honours division for the past four years. Those teams that medal in Honours qualify for the National Schools Cup in December, playing the best teams in the country.
This event is a great opportunity for young volleyballers to play six or seven matches in a short time span and grow as players. Many schools train all year for this events which is the pinnacle of their volleyball competition. TGS uses this as a growth and development competition to improve our ability come GPS season, which is January 2022.
The VQSC was last held in Toowoomba in 2019 with the event cancelled last year due to COVID-19.
