Former Socceroo Captain Hosts TGS Football Clinic

Former Socceroos Captain, Paul Wade passed his skills and knowledge to enthusiastic young footballers at Toowoomba Grammar School from April 14-16.

Wade played 118 games for Australia, 46 of these as captain of the Socceroos and over 300 NSL games. He is now a commentator and life skills coach.

Wade was joined by other high-profile coaches; Ron Smith who is the Youth Development Officer for Football Australia and has been involved with the Socceroos for 20 years and Kew Jaliens who played fifteen games for the Netherlands and is currently the Newcastle Jets Technical Director.

This is the twelfth year that the TGS Football Clinic has been held, previously with Rale Rasic as the Ambassador. This is Wade’s first time at the helm and both TGS staff and players are excited to learn from this highly regarded and respected professional.

There are 150 players in Years 5-12 attending the Paul Wade clinic which will be focussing on technical and tactical knowledge to help develop each player and enhance their skills and gameplay. A further 70 young footballers (Prep – Year 4) participated in the Simply Magic (Mitchell) Camp from Wednesday, 14 to Friday, 16 April.

This is the precursor to the GPS competition and has formed the basis of Toowoomba Grammar School’s success, with our First XI team placing in the top three in the past six years, including two Premierships.
