TGS Volleyballer Gains AIS Selection22nd March 2021
Toowoomba Grammar School’s volleyball sensation, Ben Hood has been selected to be a part of the Australian Volleyball Academy at the Australian Institute of Sport.
The 16-year-old is one of only twenty players (boys and girls) across the country to be chosen for the AVA program.
He will train once or twice a day and complete his Year 12 studies at Lake Ginninderra College.
The program can run from six months to three years, depending on when Ben’s selected for the next pathway which would be the Australian Volleyroos (national team), College in America/Canada or a contract in Europe playing professionally.
While growing in popularity in Australia, Volleyball is one of the fifth most played sports in the world and one of the biggest sports in Europe where some of the world’s best earn upward of $750k-$1 million Euro. The average earnings are around $300– 500K. This is per season, and not inclusive of any sponsorship or endorsement.
Toowoomba Grammar School will be sad to farewell Ben at the end of this term but will be excited to watch his progress when he commences with the AIS in three weeks.
