TGS Old Boys’ 20 Year Cricket Reunion Match

Pride is on the line this Saturday, 23 January as the TGS 2021 1st XI take on the 1st XI team from 2001 in the traditional 20-year Reunion Match that opens the GPS season for Toowoomba Grammar School.

For the past sixteen years the School has played an Australia Day Reunion match, calling back the 1st XI team of twenty years ago to compete against the current 1st XI. It’s traditional Australia Day backyard cricket, taken a step further.

There’s plenty of friendly rivalry as the Old Boys try to avoid hamstring injuries to outplay the younger team who is a few up on the scoresheet, with ten victories compared to the Old Boys four and a draw in 2013.

The pressure is on the 2021 1st XI who are chasing four consecutive wins for the younger team.

Despite the odds against them, and coming up against a strong 1st XI team, the 2001 1st XI players are brimming with confidence as they dust off their whites and willows from two decades ago.

The 40 over-a-side match hits off at 9:30am (coin toss at 9:10am) on Saturday, 23 January and will conclude (at approx. 4:00pm) with a post-match celebration where the Old Boys present the current boys with their 1st XI Cricket Cap.
