TGS Set for Qld Schools Volleyball Championships

Toowoomba Grammar School is sending four teams of thirty students to the Queensland Volleyball Schools Championships on the Gold Coast this weekend, October 16-18.

TGS has participated in the competition since 2004 with mixed results over that time but the main aim for our volleyballers is to remain competitive and use this competition as preparation for the 2021 GPS Season which begins in February.

This year TGS has teams in Year 10 (Honours), Year 9 (Division 1), Year 8 (Division 2) and Year 7 (Division 2). This is the first time that two competitions, the Junior (7&8) and Intermediate (9&10) are being run together. The Intermediate School’s Cup is usually held in Toowoomba at the end of May but was cancelled due to COVID-19.

COVID also prevented Ben Hood from representing the state in the U19 Qld School Sport Team at the National Championships. Ben was selected from the team following his outstanding performance for the Darling Downs team earlier this year.

TGS also had six representatives in the U15 DD team that competed in the State titles last weekend. Those players were Ned Beasley (10), Sam Noble (10), Edward Rogan (9), Angus Clews (9), Issac Burke (9) and Hussein Yusaf (9). Sam was selected for the Merit Qld State School Team.
