O’Callaghan Cup Confirmed17th June 2020
Toowoomba Grammar School and Downlands College are proud to confirm that one of Toowoomba’s most iconic sporting events, the O’Callaghan Cup, will proceed whilst still adhering to COVID-19 restrictions.
The ‘Grammar-Downlands Day’ will be held as originally planned on Saturday, 1 August 2020 however to meet COVID-19 requirements it will be held at the Toowoomba Sports Ground, also known as Clive Berghofer Stadium (Mary Street).
Other changes that are required to meet the advice of the Chief Health Officer include age group fixtures running over two days; starting from 4:00pm on Friday, 31 July and then from 8:00am on Saturday, 1 August with the main game to be held at 6:30pm under lights, which will add to the atmosphere and uniqueness of this year’s match.
Unfortunately, only players and officials from each school will be able to be present for their games; however, the 1st XV match will be live-streamed. While we understand that this is disappointing for the players and local community, both schools have shown great unity in ensuring that the O’Callaghan Cup tradition can continue at this time.
Further changes may develop leading up to the event, depending on what restrictions are in place and updates will be provided closer to the event.
