TGS Smashes the ISO Marathon Challenge20th April 2020
Toowoomba Grammar School has smashed all targets in the Rio’s Legacy ISO Marathon challenge.
Head of Corfe House and TGS PE teacher, Mr Ryan Fowler committed to running a 42.2km ‘Isolation’ Marathon in a bid to raise $3,000 for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation to purchase a ventilator for local sufferers of COVID-19.
Mr Fowler ran 141 laps of a 300m circuit on The Promenade at Toowoomba Grammar School between 6:30am and 11:30am on Saturday, 18 April.
And although social distancing was in force, Mr Fowler was definitely not alone. Over 90 TGS students participated in the marathon at their homes, clocking up 750.67km between them with a further 21 ‘external’ participants taking the mileage to a total of 1,102.6kms to fight COVID-19.
Donations are still coming in, but we have so far raised $7,050 (as at 10:00am Monday, 20 April). more than doubling the target.
Sports brand, Mizuno kindly donated a pair of shoes as an incentive for this challenge, with Year 7 student, Thompson Nimac the lucky winner.
