TGS Takes on Mini World Cup

Toowoomba Grammar School is sending a record twelve football (soccer) teams to contest the Mini World Cup in Hervey Bay from 30 September to 4 October.

This is the tenth year that the Mini World Cup has been held. The first eight years were in Inverell before the tournament relocated to Hervey Bay last year to allow for its expansion into what has become one of the largest football carnivals in the country with over a thousand footballers participating. This year, seventy teams will play with some coming from as far away as Germany and New Zealand.

TGS has participated in the Carnival since its inception and this year will have 169 players with our teams including, three U10s, two U12s, three U14s, two U16s and two U18s.

One of the big attractions is the rewards for top players; the best three players of the tournament (from the U14/U16/U18 and Open Women) are chosen to go to Germany on a fully paid coaching and football tour in June/July 2020 (valued at $7,200).

There are also forty $1,000 subsidies for the males and sixteen $1,000 subsidies for the females for selected players to join the 2020 Joeys All Star team to travel to Germany on a coaching and playing tour.
