Game, Set and Match for TGS

Five Toowoomba Grammar School students will head to Rockhampton for the Queensland School Tennis Championships later this month.

Year 12 students, James Bilbrough and Nick Elliott, Year 11 students and Hunter Austin and Year 10 student, Aaron Palmer made it through to the States after winning the Queensland Schools Darling Downs Championships on 19 August.

Ironically, the boys knocked out their team-mates, the TGS B Team in the Darling Downs Grand Final.

The B Team was comprised of Mitchell Dight, Charlie Schoorl, Nick Boyce, Ben Dight and Campbell Creighton and unfortunately for those young men, only the winning team makes it through to the State Championships which will be held on 19 and 20 September. However Mitchell has been named as the DD reserve player and will head north with the team.

This was the sixteenth consecutive year that TGS has taken the Darling Downs title with its success attributed to the skill and discipline passed down by the many coaches involved with the teams, particularly the Director of Tennis, Gavin Wright, who is a well-respected local tennis coach.
