Grammar Boys Ace Volleyball Selections4th September 2019
Two Toowoomba Grammar School students have been selected to represent Queensland at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships at the AIS in Canberra later this month.
Year 10 student, Ben Hood is no stranger to competition at a national level. He was recently a key player in the starting VI of the Queensland team that won the grand final (against NSW) of the U15 National School Sport Volleyball Championships in Adelaide from August 18-23.
As a result of Ben’s outstanding performance at the competition, he has been selected for the ten man All Australian U15 team to compete later this year.
He also represented Queensland earlier this year at the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball National Championships.
This is the second time the 16-year-old has represented Queensland at the AJVC, after playing for the Under 15 Queensland team last year and he’s excited to be part of the 2019 Under 17 Queensland team.
It’s a different story for Year 8 student, Hussein Yusaf, who only started playing volleyball two years ago but has already developed a passion for the sport, along with plenty of skills to boost his natural ability.
Hussein will be part of the Under 14 Queensland team.
Both boys are the only Toowoomba volleyballers to be selected to represent Queensland for the AJVC and are the only players from a regional area.
They travel to Brisbane every week for training with their teams until they head to Canberra for the Championships from 29 September to 5 October.
