TGS Donation Helps Homeless8th August 2019
Toowoomba Grammar School has donated four Backpack Beds to Rosies Friends on the Street on Wednesday, 7 August.
The TGS Interact Club raised funds to purchase the beds that will help local residents who are forced to deal with the elements while sleeping rough on our streets.
This is the second round of Backpack Beds that TGS has donated to Rosies, and the boys are raising more funds to buy another four beds later this year.
Toowoomba Grammar School and Rosies Friends on the Street have a strong association, with TGS donating food and drinks and students volunteering twice each school term to assist at Rosies’ Outreach BBQs that are held in Harlaxton Park on Wednesdays, Cathro Park on Fridays and Wilsonton Park on Sundays.
Rosies offer food, hot drinks and friendship to around 170 people at these outreaches every week with 79 smiling volunteers offering friendship and creating a sense of belonging for the homeless, marginalised and lonely of Toowoomba.
Fay Stein from Rosies Toowoomba said patron attendance at local branch outreaches topped 8,500 people last year and the service relies on the generosity of the community, through donations and volunteering, to continue.
“The students are an inspiration to us all, with their willingness to engage with our patrons, bringing their enthusiasm and youthfulness to the Outreaches,” said Fay.
Rosies is currently looking for more volunteers and you can register your expression of interest on their website, with an induction training session to be held on Sunday, 18 August.
