History in the Making for TGS Teacher8th July 2019
A Toowoomba Grammar School teacher has been recognised for his years of dedication and support for students and teachers around the world.
Michael Cocks received an Outstanding History Teacher Award from the Queensland History Teachers’ Association at a special presentation at the State Conference on June 29 and 30.
The annual award is given to outstanding educators who demonstrate expert knowledge, passion and innovation in their teaching of history in a Queensland school.
In addition to his six years of service at Toowoomba Grammar School, Mr Cocks has been applauded for his educational website, HistorySkills.com, which was created five years ago to help students who were struggling with the subject. The website is now used by almost a quarter of a million teachers and students in schools and universities across the globe.
“I was deeply humbled to receive such an incredible award and to be recognised by my fellow educators,” Mr Cocks said when his name was announced.
Mr Cocks also works as a historical fact-checker for the BBC History Magazine, is a textbook author for Cambridge University Press and has been awarded as an Innovative Education Expert by Microsoft for three consecutive years.
In 2015, Mr Cocks was also a finalist in the Queensland College of Teachers’ Excellence in Teaching awards.
