Rockschool Comes to Toowoomba10th June 2019
Budding rock stars from around South West Queensland will finally have the opportunity to take Rockschool Exams in Toowoomba for the first time since the exams commenced in the UK in 1991.
Toowoomba Grammar School Director of Performance, Natalie Otto has negotiated with the Australian Music Examinations Board (AEMB) to make the Rockschool Exams available at Toowoomba Grammar School on November 2 and 3, 2019.
Previously musicians would have to travel to Brisbane or submit pieces via video. This process has obviously limited the participation rate from across Toowoomba and South West Queensland.
Rockschool is the contemporary music examination side of the AMEB, it focusses on guitar, drums, keyboard and vocals rather than traditional classical music training.
The exams are graded, so musicians can find out what level they are performing at (from beginner, Level 2 to Grade 8 professional standard) or earn a globally recognised qualification that’s valuable whether they are in Toowoomba, Sydney or Shanghai.
The aim of the exams is to produce more accomplished and well-rounded musicians by providing access and support to qualifications and training as well as a benchmark for ability.
Musicians can pick their own songs to play in the exam, as well as Rockschool’s own compositions, with between three and five pieces required, depending on the grading level.
Local musicians can find out more about the Toowoomba exams on the Rockschool AMEB website https://rockschool.ameb.edu.au/
