Champion Beach Volleyballer from TGS14th May 2019
Toowoomba Grammar School Year 10 student, Ben Hood has been selected to represent Queensland at the National Volleyball Championships.
Ben was part of the U15 team that secured bronze at the State Volleyball Championships on the Sunshine Coast on May 11 and 12.
Ben is proving a force to be reckoned with on the court, the weekend’s success coming off the back of a bronze medal at the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball National Championships last month.
He won’t let the fact that he lives 100kms from the beach stop him.Ben teamed up with Brisbane-based, Caleb Sala to compete at the Championships which were held in Bunbury, WA from April 15-18.
The two boys are traditionally rivals in the GPS competition, with Caleb representing Churchie.
Ben and Caleb were one of two teams representing Queensland, the other team won the gold medal and Queensland was awarded Overall Champion State for the fifth consecutive year.
Ben and Caleb won silver at the State Championships in March.
Beach volleyball is a very different game to indoor, having only two members on the team, slightly reduced court size (8mx8m), played on sand (naturally) and at the open net height of 2.43m.
