Young TGS Student Stars in Les Miserables

Toowoomba Grammar School could boast the next Hugh Jackman, with a Year 7 student landing one of the starring roles in the Queensland Conservatorium of Music’s production of Les Misérables.

Twelve-year-old Darcy Meagher was one of twelve boys who auditioned for the role of ‘Gavroche’ in Brisbane on 31 March and he got the call up a fortnight ago.

He was both thrilled and shocked, as he will be one of the youngest cast members in the production that runs at the Conservatorium Theatre from 8-17 August.

Darcy will need to travel to Brisbane three times a week for rehearsals from the start of June, but despite the long hours he is thrilled to have this amazing opportunity. He is one of three boys who will play the role and he will perform in four shows.

Darcy has been dancing at Dance Central since the age of three and started drama classes at five. He is no stranger to the stage performing in many eisteddfod, School and Dance Central productions with his first major role as Young Lola in last month’s Empire Theatre sell-out production of Kinky Boots.

Les Misérables is the world’s longest running musical, a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and features one of the most memorable scores of all time.
