Spiral Has Toowoomba in a Spin10th April 2019
Toowoomba Grammar School Old Boy (2010-2014) Will Hansen is returning to his hometown to wow locals with his seven-piece ensemble ‘Spiral’.
Will was accepted into the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music after graduating from Toowoomba Grammar School and it was there that he formed Spiral with other ‘Con’ students in 2016. He has performed at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, City Recital Hall and Sydney Town Hall.
Will has a busy year ahead, touring Spain with the Sydney Conservatorium Wind Symphony and to Chengdu, China with the Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble in July. He will also be a featured soloist in Ensemble Offspring’s 2019 Hatched Academy Open Mic Night in August and will have a newly commissioned piece performed at the Brett Whiteley Studio in Surry Hills for a third consecutive year.
Despite all those big plans, Will is extremely excited to bring Spiral to Toowoomba for a special one-off performance at 7:00pm this Friday, 12 April at St Luke’s Church.
Spiral is comprised of seven composer-performers and over the last three years they have performed in concerts including Vivid Sydney, Backstage Music and at their regular venue 107 Redfern. In 2018, Spiral was invited to participate in a workshop with renowned US ensemble, Bang On A Can All Stars.
Characterised by their energetic performances and minimalist textures, Spiral aims to invigorate the Australian new music scene and engage young audiences with unique and accessible concerts.
Spiral is made up of: Will Hansen (Double Bass), Sarah Elise Thompson (Piano), Josephine Macken (Flute), Rory Knott (Bass Guitar), Johannes MacDonald (Flute), Oscar Smith (Piano) and Joshua Winestock (Guitar).
