Developing good character extends well beyond the classroom and at Toowoomba Grammar School we offer a range of performing arts and activities for our boys

Performing Arts

Toowoomba Grammar School offers a Prep to Year 12 Co-curriculum Music Tuition program with private or paired tuition in Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Voice, Piano, Guitar and Strings. All boys, from beginners to advanced musicians, can be involved in our high-quality program which is led by a team of dedicated and fully qualified music professionals.

The Toowoomba Grammar School Acting Academy (TiGAA) has Junior (Years 7 to 8), Intermediate (Years 9 to 10) and Senior (Years 11 to 12) divisions. Students from Fairholme College, The Glennie School and St Ursula's College are also invited to join the TiGAA program. The students relish our state-of-the-art drama facilities, with professional sound and lighting and dressing rooms laden with costumes.

Our drama students are mentored by passionate staff with rehearsals during some lunch hours, after school and occasionally on weekends. They not only perform theatre, but are involved in filmmaking and have reached the finals of the Screenwave International Film Festival and Next Wave Short Film Festival in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Boys in our drama and music programs have the opportunity to be involved in concerts, School and community performances and eisteddfods.

We are proud to have many students accepted into various Conservatorium of Music programs and NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts), with many TGS graduates successfully pursuing careers in film, television and theatre.

TGS Army Cadets

The Toowoomba Grammar School Army Cadet Unit was officially formed in 1892. It is the longest continuously serving Army Cadet Unit in Queensland, one of the oldest Cadet units in Australia and one of only four school-based Cadet Units in Queensland.

TGSACU is ideal for boys who may have an interest in joining the Defence Force, or who just want to have adventure and fun. Cadets get to explore their full potential, test their resilience, develop character and confidence, learn leadership skills, make friends and put their initiative to the test. They learn military skills such as navigation, camouflage and concealment, shelter construction, first aid and bush cooking. They visit army bases and participate in obstacle courses, shooting, night vision courses and weekend camps (known as bivouacs).

TGSACU is a member of 16th Battalion SE QLD Army Cadets Brigade and is sponsored by the Oakey Army Aviation Training Centre (AAvnTC). This provides opportunities for the cadets to undertake aviation work experience, helicopter joy flights, weapons simulation system shoots and access a range of active defence force members.

Training is Monday afternoons where the cadets learn traditional drills to perform at ANZAC Day and other memorial services around the region.

Clubs

Toowoomba Grammar School offers a diverse range of clubs for the Senior School students to participate in during lunch, after school or on weekends. This allows the boys to forge friendships with like-minded students who they otherwise may not meet, as well as to pursue their passions and interests.

Some of our clubs include debating, drone, photography, show cattle, Latin, writers, chess, Interact, and mountain biking.
