Kuzma gained a hat-trick of goals with a penalty in the box shortly after the break.  TGS finally rounded off their scoring with Crisp putting on a wonderful solo goal after Matt Hull won possession high up the pitch. TGS were lucky not concede in the last 10 minutes. Only a truly world class save from custodian David Kowitz enabled TGS to keep a clean sheet. His tip over the bar after being seemingly being beaten left everyone in awe.
TGS have the cup game against Downlands next week and will be keen to retain the trophy they regained in 2011.
 

A tremendous effort by all teams away at Gregory Terrace on Saturday. Given the long weekend it was a superb outcome and effort by all involved. None moreso than our boys who played in the E, D and C cohorts with limited interchanges against large squads. The boys played with spirit and endeavour to record 13 wins, 3 draws and 7 losses for the day.

Applicants should have the appropriate qualifications or be willing to undertake relevant courses.  This is a full-time, permanent position over the full calendar year with a commencement date in June 2012.

After two days of competition Jack was 3rd for All Around in Level 8 and has been selected in the Queensland team to compete at the National Gymnastics Championships in Sydney in late May.  Other places included 3rd rings, 5th floor, 5th vault and 6th pommel.

At the Championships Jack was awarded the “2011 Queensland Male Levels Gymnast of the Year”  from a field of all male Qld gymnasts except the senior international gymnasts; a reflection of his fantastic 2011 performances at regional, state, national and international events. 

1st XI Football will still kick-off at 12.30pm.  Spectators encouraged and welcome!

In what would normally take on the role of a GPS home fixture, Saturday 28 April was a piece of history in the landscape of TGS football. Greeted by miserable weather conditions after continuous rain for the previous 24 hours, a decision was made that all fixtures outside of the Firsts would have to be cancelled. The Firsts however would proceed as scheduled at 12.30pm on Old Boys Oval. In what was to be the first competitive football fixture at the school on the prestigious oval. Our opponents none other than arch rivals , Brisbane Grammar School who had recorded a hard fought draw the previous week against BSHS whilst we had lost 1-2 away to ACGS in a somewhat disappointing result.

A dedicated crowd of supporters braved the wet and foggy conditions led by a spirited group of Senior boys. They only had to wait 10 minutes to see Crisp hit the upright twice and Hull slide one precariously close before Thomas Kuzma will be remembered as the first footballer to score on Old Boys. With pace, he slid past the central defenders before calmly rounding the advancing keeper to open the scoring. The first half continued to see the side dominate in slippery conditions, but the lads could not muster a second and went to the break at 1-0 up.

The second half saw BGS emerge from the sheds all fired up, and a series of lapses in discipline and concentration saw the BGS central defender head home superbly from a corner to make it 1-1. This spurred a stirring revival as Kuzma soon made it 2-1 before David Kowitz reaction save again from a headed corner swung momentum further the home teams way. Crisp who had been superb at target all day, charged down the keepers clearance to see him rewarded for his effort as the ball rebounded back in the net. At 3-1 Phillips received his second yellow card to reduce the home team to 10. Coach Broadfoot introduced fresh legs in key positions with Vickery, Comerford and Ensor all making contributions. Vickery's pace caught the keeper out and his foul saw a penalty awarded. Hull who was close to best on ground stepped up but placed his spot kick wide to the right. It wasn't long before Matt atoned for this when Vickery combined with Treasure and Comerford to see him cross a ball to Hull who calmly beat one defender before driving the ball from 5 metres into the roof of the net. At 4-1 the crowd knew that they were a part of history, and when the referees whistle blew 3 minutes later to signal fulltime, the crowd of boys invaded the pitch to sing a vocal and spirited rendition of the TGS war cry.

Trent Rogers and Mackenzie Stuart along with Captain Jack Winter in the heart of midfield were the unsung heroes in a great team effort.

Bryan Poon, Jared Pailthorpe, Drew Timbs, Phillip Brittain, Will Lane and Brayden McCarthy all competed with distinction at the Championships.
