Camerata Comes to TGS6th August 2018
An exciting opportunity for Toowoomba Grammar School music students, with the Queensland Camerata Orchestra conducting a workshop at the School on Monday morning, 6 August.
Camerata isn’t your typical strings orchestra, but has earned a reputation for innovation and adventurous programming. The ensemble has established itself as a chamber orchestra of National significance with an outstanding track record of artistic achievement. The ensemble performs a major concert season annually in Brisbane as well as at festivals, regional tours and national broadcasts.
Camerata members will be conducting a workshop with TGS’ four String Ensembles; the student groups will each perform one or two pieces, with the experienced Camerata musicians then workshopping the repertoire with the students in a masterclass format.
The ensemble will be bringing a string quintet – 2 x Violins, 1 x Viola, 1 x Cello and 1 x Double Bass, and the masterclass will include a Chamber Music and Chamber Orchestra style coaching workshop in which members of the ensemble will lead sections, provide expertise and coach from the sidelines.
TGS is among just a handful of schools who have been fortunate enough to draw on the skills and experience of the renowned Camerata musicians.
The entire Camerata ensemble will perform their concert ‘Bliss’ at the Empire Theatre with internationally acclaimed clarinettist, Julian Bliss, on Saturday https://www.empiretheatre.com.au/event/472/bliss-camerata-queensland-s-chamber-orchestra
