TGS Supports The World’s Greatest Shave22nd June 2018
Ten Toowoomba Grammar School students will brave the cold after shaving their heads yesterday as a show of support for one of their own.
Year 9 student, Peter Rathie was diagnosed with Leukaemia last year and has since been undergoing treatment.
With such strong comradery at TGS, it was inevitable that the boys would rally together to raise awareness of this deadly disease and show their fellow-student that they are with him all the way.
And it’s not just for Peter; every day, 35 Australians are diagnosed with Blood Cancer. It claims more lives per year than both breast cancer and melanoma, making it the fifth deadliest cancer in Australia.
Tom Dolzan and Lachlan Vary from Taylor House;
Will Harris and Isaac Burgoyne from Mackintosh House;
Ben Donohoe and Michael Aird from Groom;
Will Scorer and Joe Lederhose from Stephens;
Max Dent and Samson Ryan from Boyce House.
have raised a minimum of $1,000 each to participate in The World’s Greatest Shave.
They lost their locks right in the middle of the TGS Track and Field Carnival on Thursday, June 21.
Peter is currently in Brisbane for the next six to eight weeks for Chemotherapy, so was unable to attend The World’s Greatest Shave, but his family has thanked the School and the boys for raising over $12,000 for Leukaemia research.
Peter hopes to be well enough to return to School intermittently during Term 3.
